How to stay fit while in Long Beach

Long Beach Bike Ride

Staying fit while you’re in Long Beach for the 2017 Home Care and Hospice Conference and Expo won’t be hard. Nearly every hotel has a fitness center with cardio machines like treadmills and elliptical trainers, weight machines, and an outdoor pool. Some also have indoor pools, free weights, and stretching areas. The Westin offers New Balance workout gear rentals and three-and-five-mile outdoor jogging maps.

If you prefer to do your own thing outside, just walk on one of the many scenic paths or on the miles of sandy beach. Getting your 10 thousand daily steps never felt so good! Or, rent a bike and take a ride. You can get your daily exercise while having fun and soaking up some Vitamin D in sunny California. There are also yoga studios and gyms in Long Beach. Some may offer drop-in classes for a fee.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways to stay in shape while in town for the Conference. Just don’t forget to pack your exercise clothes.

Change is good!

Innovation

You may notice some new and exciting changes at the Home Care and Hospice Conference and Expo in October, particularly with our education program, theme, and general sessions.

We listened to feedback from you – our past attendees – and made this year better than ever. We changed our education program on the back end so you can have a streamlined, integrated experience on the front end. You will choose from more than 50 hours of education sessions on topics you care about – including quality assurance, leadership, private pay and much more. There will also be an Innovations Gallery on the Expo Floor, where you’ll learn about everything from clinical compliance to social issues and wound care in a robust, graphic format that fosters social interaction.

The theme of #NAHC2017 is Q3: Quality of Care. Quality at Work. Quality at Home. Our three, dynamic keynote speakers – Laura Adams, Juliet Funt, and John O’Leary – will each address an area of that theme in their keynote speeches during the general sessions. They will encourage you to think differently about all aspects of your life and we know you’ll leave empowered and inspired.

There have also been exciting changes happening at NAHC. Come to the Conference to experience something new in the home care and hospice industry. But don’t worry – there will still be tons of actionable advice and information from NAHC that you have come to rely upon and trust. Come to the Conference and help your agency thrive during these challenging times.

A unique way to network at this year’s conference

Networking and sharing

We believe a great conference is about sharing ideas and information, and while we always expect that to happen in our classrooms and in the expo, this year we’re hoping our attendees can make connections in a new way.

We’re introducing Life Hacks as a chance to network and get to know other attendees, and we’re looking for people with life skills they want to share. On Sunday morning, in the foyer surrounding the registration area, we want to set up Life Hack stations to encourage people – attendees and exhibitors – to hang out and spend time with each other.

What kind of life skills are we talking about? Here are some ideas:

  • How to take a better selfie
  • OneNote or Evernote
  • How to use LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram
  • How to use Facebook Live or Chat
  • How to journal
  • How to fold a pocket square
  • How to use filters on Instagram
  • How to use Excel
  • How to use PhotoShop
  • How to go from couch potato to marathoner in 6 months

You get the idea, whatever your special skills or talents might be. We’re looking for a few people who want to teach and share their knowledge – whether trivial or profound – and help be part of a great experience.

Who should volunteer?

  • Extroverts who love meeting new people at conferences
  • Exhibitors who want to connect with attendees
  • Natural teachers who love to share knowledge and information
  • Introverts who want to come out of their shells to meet new people

We’re asking for a commitment of one-to-three hours of your time on Sunday, October 15, from 9 a.m. to noon. You shouldn’t attempt anything that requires any large props, only what you can easily carry with you (such as a phone or tablet). This is a casual opportunity to make connections.

We’re trying something new. Help us make it a success. Please email marketing@192.168.1.177.xip.io ASAP with your ideas and availability.

Challenges faced by emerging leaders in home care and hospice

Quality Control

Are you an emerging leader in home care and hospice with less than five years of health care experience or are you a clinician who crossed over to management? No matter how you describe yourself you may feel overwhelmed by all there is to know about the business side of the business. After you learn all of the acronyms – HHCoPs and QAPI for example – you need to know what they mean for your agency, best practices, and how to balance quality care delivery with cost savings.

The learning curve is constant in this fast-paced, ever-changing industry but we have a solution that could help you in the short term. Take our special add-on pre-conference session “How to Succeed When You’re New-ish in the Business” at the Home Care and Hospice Conference and Expo in October. Considered a great value for the money, this class will provide the tools you need to get ahead. Don’t miss out!

Private duty agencies

We're Hiring

Private duty home care providers treat those who are unwell, disabled, elderly, or recovering from an illness or injury and enable them to remain safe and comfortable at home. Whether the care delivered is skilled (nursing) or unskilled (light housekeeping, errands, and companion care) their importance to one’s health and well being cannot be overstated.

Unfortunately, the private duty industry faces caregiver shortages and high turnover rates, and also has difficulty finding qualified candidates. Without caregivers, you can’t serve your clients and your agency won’t grow. Your agency’s ability to provide quality care could also be compromised.

If these are challenges faced by your agency, come to the 2017 Home Care and Hospice Conference and Expo where you will learn staff recruitment and retention strategies, and gain valuable feedback from peers who had similar issues. There is also a special add-on preconference session about private duty on Sunday, October 15.

Learn more about our exciting education program or register for the Conference. Early bird rates expire 8/31.
